Pacific family applauds launch of Niue energy roadmap

A 10-year roadmap to improve all forms of energy security and access on the Pacific island of Niue has been launched in Alofi today during a governing body meeting for Pacific Community (SPC) officials.
Niue becomes the sixth SPC island member to finalise a national energy roadmap with technical assistance from SPC, following in the footsteps of Tonga, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa and Nauru.

Emergency grab bags to promote safety at sea in Niue

In an effort to ensure the safety of lives at sea, 20 emergency kits were presented to small-scale fishers and boat owners in Alofi, Niue today, by the European Union Ambassador for the Pacific, His Excellency Andrew Jacobs.

The delivery of the emergency “grab bags” worth a total of €18,000 (NZ$30,143), was made possible through the Development of Tuna Fisheries in the Pacific Project (DevFish2), a European Union project which is implemented regionally by the Pacific Community (SPC).

U.S. and Pacific partners unite to build climate resilience

US-Amb-CefkinA new U.S. Government initiative was launched today to help communities in the Pacific Islands region address the negative effects of climate change.

The United States Agency for International Development will partner with the Pacific Community (SPC), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, and the Secretariat of the Pacific Environment Programme for a five-year initiative that will strengthen the national capacity of up to 12 Pacific Island countries to effectively plan, coordinate and respond to the adverse impacts of climate change.

Pacific development in focus as Pacific Community family gathers in Niue

The endorsement of a five-year navigation chart for the Pacific’s largest regional development organisation is on the agenda as a meeting of officials from among the 26 country and territory members of the Pacific Community (SPC) begins in Alofi, Niue.
More than 50 SPC member representatives and development partners, including GIZ and the European Union, are attending the 45th Meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA 45) from 30 October to 2 November.
The officials meeting will be followed by the ministerial-level 9th biennial Conference of the Pacific Community, in Niue next week (4 to 5 November).

Niue to host 9th Pacific Community Conference

Delegates representing the 26 member countries and territories of the Pacific Community will meet in Alofi, Niue, in early November 2015 for the 9th Pacific Community Conference.

On the agenda when the Pacific Community’s peak governing body convenes for its biennial meeting (4 to 5 November) will be endorsement of the international development organisation’s Strategic Plan for 2016–2020, a High-level Dialogue on Youth and the anticipated admission of a new member.

The Conference will be preceded by the 45th annual meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA) from 30 October to 2 November, also to be hosted in Niue.
